Douglas A. Page, P.E. NY & FL
Northeast Chapter Board of Governors – 2019-22
Doug Page was born in Troy, NY and raised in Waterford, NY.
He is a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College with an Associate degree in Engineering Science then transferred to Clarkson University where he received his degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Later he attended the University at Albany (Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy) and received a Master’s in Public Administration. Additionally, he took several classes at NYU.
Work Experience:
1983 – 1990: Field Mechanical Engineer with the NYS OGS.
1990 – 1995: Project Manager with the Facilities Development Corporation.
1995 – 2017: Engineer and Design Manager with NYS Dormitory Authority.
2017 – 2022: Senior Associate with EME Group.
Doug has been involved with several billion dollars’ worth of construction over his career including a NYS prison dungeon (Correctional Facility that was a former dungeon that the prisoners were forced to build) to a water tower on a Manhattan high-rise. Doug quoted Dan Holohan as saying “heating guys get to go to all the coolest places.”
Introduction to HVAC was when he was in his Senior year at Clarkson and took an HVAC course. He was curious about HVAC since he was a youngster. He remembers trying to determine how to correct the over heated attic and damp basement in the house where he grew up. These days it is natatoriums, glass curtain walls and sub-basements that spark his interest.
Doug finds the complexity and diversity of HVAC that makes it fun to solve puzzles with pieces missing. The industry is a moving target. There are issues with Energy Efficiency, Indoor Air Quality, building code mandates, changes in equipment and systems technologies; evolution of Building Sciences and a host of other areas of the industry changing. The choices we make are often from topics having competing values. These will affect building occupants and owners for decades after our design and construction decisions are made. Doug enjoys identifying and fixing broken stuff.
He joined ASHRAE in 1983 while at college and did not continue after college until rejoining 1999. He rejoined ASHRAE because of the people in the industry. Specifically, our Northeast Chapter members. The Engineers, Contractors, Manufacturer’s Reps, building owners and others are some of the smartest folks around. These are the folks we interact with daily and they help us solve problems. Second is access to leading industry publications and lastly, the monthly meetings and presentations as well as the Society Expos and symposiums. He prefers the Society Winter Meetings.
Doug has served on the Board of Governors for the past three years and will be leaving the Board at the end of this Society year, but staying involved as a member as he approaches retirement in the not-so-distant future. He would like to be remembered as one of the many who tried to help.
Doug is married and has two daughters (both engineers) and a cat he inherited from one of the kids. (Marissa)
Spare time likes are boating, sailing, hiking, camping trips, hanging with friends, perpetual building stuff at camp and a keen desire for future walks on the beach and future afternoon naps. Let’s not forget visiting the kids. (At Disney World)
A parting note was: The key question old engineers should ask every day – How can I help someone to succeed?
We thank him for his service to ASHRAE and to the Northeast Chapter and we wish him future success.
